Splitting one big branch into two smaller branches.(Shimpaku)

Juniperus chinensis ‘Shimpaku' 真柏
 < Before >
Since the tree only has a few strong branches I had to spend more time than usual thinking of the styling.

The center branch splits into two smaller branches, however those two branches are placed too high and would look boring when bent down.

Then I decided to split the branch in half, separating the middle which allows me to bend the branches further down to change the appearance of the tree.

After performing the cut I sealed the wound.

With the bend close to the main trunk I was able to make the tree look older and more compact.

  1. This looks really good. It would have taken me a long time to think to split those branches like that.
