Shadowing nets in winter 冬の寒冷紗

寒冷紗を使うのは夏だけではありません。
冬にも大役立ちです。
冬季は特に朝晩の冷え込みが激しいので霜よけの為に寒冷紗を利用します。
夕方に日が落ちると寒冷紗を広げて、翌朝の仕事始めと共に畳みます。

We use shadowing nets in winter as well as summer.
The reason why we use them in winter is to prevent from frost.
We open the shadowing nets after sun goes down and close them at next morning.

How to make Jin? ジンを作ってみよう

I worked on Shinpaku.
I usually cut needless branches but I tried to make a lot of Jins for practice this time.
真柏の盆栽をつくります。
通常は不要な枝は切るのですが、今回は練習の為、全てジンにします。

Before

< How to make Jin? >
Squish a branch using pliers and peel the bark.
Crush tip lightly using pliers and make a cut in it.
Remove half part from the cut line.

< ジンの作り方 >
ヤットコで枝を潰してから樹皮を剥がします。
枝の先端をヤットコで軽く潰して、又枝切りで先端に切れ目を入れます。
切れ目から片方をヤットコで取り除きます。

針金を掛けて完成です。

Cutting leaves of Japanese quince

Cut all leaves to look prettier.
Then, you need to pay attention not to hurt buds.
You can wire easily after cutting leaves.

Excursion to Adachi Museum of Art / 足立美術館へ遠足

親方と弟子全員で足立美術館へ見学に行ってきました。足立美術館と言えば、Sukiya Living（数奇屋リビング）／ジャーナル・オブ・ジャパニーズ・ガーデニング」の「2012年日本庭園ランキング（潮騒ランキング）」で庭園日本一を10年連続で受賞したことで有名です。

庭園は窓越しに見るのですが、窓枠がまるで絵画を見ているかのような感覚を呼び起こし、広く奥行きのある庭園は“生きた絵画”になり大変に素晴らしいものでした。紅葉が一番綺麗な時期でしたので、真っ赤に色づいたモミジは庭園に季節感を添えていて美しさが際立っていました。モミジの葉刈りが大好きな私は、刈りたい気持ちを抑えるのに必死でした。
　最も印象に残ったものは赤松です。赤松の幹肌はそれは美しい赤色をしていて、妖艶に佇むその姿から雌松と呼ばれているのが初めて分かったような気がします。

日本に住んでいながら日本庭園を見る機会は滅多にありませんので、今回の遠足は楽しい思い出と共に良い学習ができたと思います。親方に感謝です。

All apprentices and our boss went to Adachi Museum of Art to look the garden.
The garden is well-known that the Sukiya Living Magazine "Journal of Japanese Gardening (JOJG)",  the gardens of the Adachi Museum of Art were ranked at number one for the tenth consecutive year.
The garden was awesome. The biggest impression is that the trunks of red pine were more reddish than I thought and it was beautiful. It was a good time to see autumn leaves. I’d like to go to there in different season again.
