Remove old leaves from White pine

Remove orange old leaves.
Put your hand under branches as move fingers therefore you can take the leaves out easily.
You had better not pull them out from above in case buds are damaged.

<After>
After take the old leaves out, we can see beautiful green.

Studying at home

I’m reading a book about Bonsai as I’m eating a Swiss chocolate at home.
Whenever I have a trouble, my co-workers always help me and encourage me.
They are like Superman or Doraemon.
I’m enormously grateful to my co-workers.

You will see soon if you come to Fujikawa International School of Bonsai.

Fertilizer

Thank you for writing a comment.
“What kind of fertilizer are you using for this time of year?”

This is the fertilizer which we use throughout the year is composed of nitrogen 4.0%, phosphoric acid 2.0% and potash 1.0%.
We can use it for both Shouhaku and Zouki Bonsai.
If you give it for Shouhin Bonsai, you should divide it into halves.

Solid fertilizer lasts effect longer; therefore, it’s used for ordinary Bonsai.
Liquid fertilizer has an immediate effect; therefore, it’s suitable for Bonsai with stone, group planting Bonsai and Kusamono Bonsai.

Giving fertilizers

I exchanged old fertilizers for new ones.
There is no point in leaving such old fertilizers which crumble like cookies.
Some of them didn’t even cling to soil.

Throw old ones away and put new ones.
Point: Press new fertilizers on soil.
Otherwise fertilizers would flow when you water.

Wiring on Jin

Find this Sinpaku’s ( Juniper’s ) character, and then decide form of a tree.
I decided Hankengai.

<Before>
Decide the front and the degree of the angle.

After completing Jin and Syari, wire the branches.
Point: Use aluminum wires if you painted lime sulfur on Jin.
Otherwise, copper wires make Jin darkened.
In case of hard Jin, you had better to use thick wire.

Jin and Syari are interesting. I expect the future when it has a lot of leaves.

Shadowing net

I removed old leaves of Black Pine today.
As Black Pine has needle-like leaves, it hurts!
Although it’s October, the temperature was 33 degrees today.
We still use shadowing nets to protect Bonsai from solar heat.
Probably, this is the last time to see Kanreisha in this year.

Display Shohin-Bonsai

I leant how to display Shohin-Bonsai.
Point:
  • Choose any different tree species, tree form and pots.
  • Tenba which is on the top of shelf is required a fine-featured and powerful Bonsai.
  • Hanedashi is beside shelf. The movement of Hanedashi is opposite of the Bonsai on the shelf.
  • Kusamono sets up beside either a Hanedashi or a shelf.
