pinching new growth もみじの芽摘み

I pinched new growth of Maple at the beginning of April.
Since new growth had moist and soft texture, I could pinch by fingers.

４月上旬、もみじの新芽があまり伸びないうちに芽摘みを行いました。
新芽は柔らかくてしっとりした感触です。この状態であれば鋏は使わず、指で摘めます。

 

 

pinching new growth makes tree produce more branches and adjusts balance of leaves and branches.
The new growth is being pinched back to the first pair of leaves.
Strong branch may shoot new growth again after pinching. Then, pinch the new growth. It might be repeated twice or three times, so follow the progress carefully.
It's good to use tweezers not to hurt other leaves.

芽摘みとは、枚数を増やし枝ぶりや枝葉の調和をはかるための大切な作業です。
芽の摘み方は１節（２葉）を残すのが基本です。
勢いのよい枝は、芽摘み後の芽から新しい枝が伸び、２度３度と芽摘みを行う必要がでてきますので、注意して経過を観察しましょう。
周りの葉を傷つけないようにピンセットを使って摘むのもよいでしょう。
